Wedding Season is winding down and we are starting to look towards Spring 2014….one thing is for sure, brights will be center stage. Shades of Blue, Orange, Yellow, Purples and Sand will be on the scene and personally, I’m so excited.

Here is a look at the 2014 Wedding Trends in color…

The wedding trends of 2014 are definitely open to interpretation and inspire us to use color in unexpected ways.  Looking for inspiration on how to incorporate these bold colors?  You’ll see it in new cars, home furnishings, accessories and so much more.
Have a fabulous day,

Napa Destination Wedding and Luxury Guest Experience…..those were the first words I heard from my bride, Amy who wanted to travel from Shanghai, China to the Napa Valley to get married. At first I thought she was kidding, after all, she contacted me in July to plan, design and coordinate her wedding…..in October of the same year.  So with a little less than four months, more than twelve hours’ time difference and a language barrier between me and most guests, I set out to plan her dream wedding.

The whirlwind wedding would include a welcome reception on the Napa River at the River Terrace Inn – our host hotel for the weekend with wine, figs, bruschetta and fabulous local cheeses, followed by a light stroll over to one of downtown Napa’s best restaurants….Fish Story (and that’s just day one).

Day two started out with a hearty breakfast and a champagne toast & tour at Mumm Napa….then our own private winery estate for the afternoon at Flora Springs (complete with a cave tour, barrel tasting, grape picking and lunch on the terrace).

But what wine country destination event would be complete without a good old fashioned Grape Stomp…which we thoroughly enjoyed at Grgich Hills Winery….

Day three…wedding day…some of the guests went hot air ballooning, some played golf and others took in a spa treatment….but one thing was for sure, they were ready to dance the night away with the bride and groom….so who better than one of the hottest Latin Bands in the Bay Area…..Oye Productions….from welcome, to ceremony, cocktails and beyond….Latin rhythms kept the mood light and the feet moving….

Wedding day at Auberge Du Soleil….one of the Napa Valley’s most prestigious resorts, was nothing short of magical. The ceremony started just as the sun was snuggling up in the sky and cast the perfect amount of heat and light on everyone…especially the bride in her Cathedral veil and Vera Wang dress……a dress I picked which she never saw until ten days prior to the wedding (talk about a wedding planner sweating bullets).  The ceremony was translated into Chinese by a good family friend and was unapologetically funny, endearing and sweet.

After our Michelin star rated dinner, guests were invited into the Lounge….filled with sultry furnishings, and candle light and now…the full Latin band….nothing but dancing till the end.

Destination Engagement Photograpy…..boy oh boy, are they fun.  As a planner and designer, it’s always fun for me to take a day out and spend it with one of my creative partners and see what life is like in their arena.  Recently, I had the opportunity to tag along with Brian MacStay of Brian MacStay Photography and Barbara Yasuhara for an engagement session in Half Moon Bay.  Our couple, here from Shanghai for their destination wedding in Napa, CA,  decided to start the first leg of their trip in Half Moon Bay to enjoy the California coast, world class golf courses, and the luxury of the Ritz Carlton.

I had the opportunity to learn a little bit more about what it takes to produce a great photo, light and scouting for shot spots.  We had a great day and I look forward to many more opportunities to see life from behind the lens. Here’s a glimpse of the day….hope you enjoy

Have a fabulous day,

Signature drinks have been around at weddings for awhile and they’re probably one of my favorite elements to introduce.  This week, we’re going to take a spin on a classic Gimlet. We featured this one at Carrie & Mike’s Wedding at the Harvest Inn {we added muddled basil} and it was a complete hit.

This refreshing riff on the classic gimlet — spiked with cucumber and lime juice — will take you right through to summer. For a quick graphic garnish, very thinly slice English cucumber into rounds and arrange them around the bottom of a lowball glass before filling with ice.

1/2 English cucumber, chopped, plus slices for garnish (optional)
2 tablespoons water
2 ounces gin
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup (recipe below)

Puree the cucumber and water in a blender until smooth. For each cocktail, shake three ounces cucumber juice, the gin, lime juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice for 30 seconds; strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with cucumber slices.

Simple Syrup: Heat one cup each of water and granulated sugar in a small saucepan, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves; let cool and transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator up to one month.

Makes: 1 drink

Enjoy and have a fabulous day,

Who doesn’t like a pop of color? And what better way to bring color to your event that with a fresh pop in your flowers.  Keep in mind when selecting your flowers – Are they in Season? Is there an alternative that will give me a similar look that I’m going for but less expensive?

Take a look at some of our favorites for the summer.
