Nautical Inspired Wedding at The Lighthouse Glen Cove

When I met the bride, Alice, I met her mom and one of her sisters and we instantly hit it off. I was setting up for a wedding at the Lighthouse Glen Cove and they were on a tour of the space, considering it for the bride’s upcoming Nautical Inspired wedding.  They eventually booked the venue, came to find me at an open house hosted by the venue and made my heart happy that they wanted to work with me to design the wedding.

The groom, who’s a merchant marine, proposed at the waterfront so the wedding was going to have a nautical theme and we were going to have a lot of fun.  We worked to inject personality, whimsey and love into this wedding and the MOB (Mother of The Bride) worked her magic on a few DIY projects to make it even more personal for the Bride and Groom and their families.

Here are some of my favorite moments from Alice & John’s big day:

Happy Sunday

If fear wasn’t in the equation, what would the possibilities be? Legendary, Monumental, Powerful, Gracious, Loving, Kind, Empowered, Brave……if we didn’t know fear, how powerful could we be?

Let that sink in…..

Happy Sunday What Would You Do If You Weren

Wheels Up,

Engaged, Now What?

The love of your life popped the question and you said yes….OMG, you’re engaged, now what? The first thing to do is take it all in.  Sure you’ve got a wedding to plan, big or small, and you’re about to be bombarded by a ton of questions from friends and family…..but please take a minute to enjoy this new level in your relationship.

After, you’ve taken some time to revel in the joys of being engaged, it’s time to get down to brass tactics. There are many details to attend to now that you’re engaged and planning your wedding.  First thing… if your fiancé hasn’t already, insure your ring and visit the jeweler to find out the appropriate way to clean and care for your new ring.

Next, discuss with each other first…..then your family these two things – the Budget and how many Guests. Once you have a good handle on these two things, hire a Wedding Planner and start your venue search. If you’re getting married in a popular month like October in Wine Country, you need to start your venue search early and a seasoned planner will help you find the venue that fits your design aesthetic, needs and budget.  So start thinking about what kind of venue you want to tie the knot in….

Once you have your planner and venue booked, next up is catering and photography.  Depending on the venue, your caterer might be required to select a caterer from the venue’s preferred list. When considering your caterers, also think about your bar needs…..will they provide a bar tender, do they have a full liquor license, is there a benefit to me providing the alcohol and them serving or do I need to get it all through them? About the bar…..if you’re hosting your event at a winery, most likely you will not be able to have a full bar, just wine, beer and champagne due to use permits

Photography – this is it’s one ball of wax……if I’m being honest, I design the magic and the photographer’s job is to capture the beauty  that makes you relive this beautiful day again and again with joy and delight.  Dark and moody….airy and light, photojournalistic, paparazzi style….you name it, there’s a photog to fit your style and energy.  I am constantly amazed at the talent behind the lens of some of our favorite photographers.

These are the key first elements to tackle on your wedding planning journey and I’ll be sharing more planning tips to come.  Want to discuss your wedding in more detail, give me a buzz and I’ll be happy to help.

We’ve faced challenges, overcome obstacles, reached new highs and lows……but at the end of the day…..here we are. We persevered, survived, grew, learned, loved, lost and ready to do it all again better.  Maybe this time, we’re more prepared, centered with love and care. We only have this one life, but a new opportunity every day to wake up, to do more, be more, try more.

Where are you exactly and where you want to go in life is completely up to you…..fear less and try more…

In order to swim, you have to get your feet wet.

Wheels Up,

San Francisco Winter Weddings are very rare for me, but this one was so special. The bride was a teacher and the groom (who is a triplet) was in the service so we had to plan around an impending deployment and school breaks.  We also learned, midway through the planning, that this would be the last wedding at the Pavilion by the Bay on Treasure Island, which sits just outside San Francisco off the Bay Bridge. A huge construction project that seemed like just talk for years finally had a start date and a plan. After touring multiple water view locations around the Bay Area, the view of the San Francisco skyline from the Pavilion was the perfect setting for these two lovers of the ocean.

You’d never know, with all the vibrant colors we chose, that it was FREEEEZING…..our original plan was for an outside ceremony but the wind chill off the Bay was not going to let that happen. Guests arrived to hot ciders, teas, a coffee bar and plenty of heaters.  Once dinner was served and the dancing started, it was seriously hot in there, lol.

This wedding was filled with so much love, excitement, from the first look to the packed dance floor……We forgot all about it being cold outside and today is their anniversary, so let’s take a peak back to their beautiful wedding day…..
